My daughter has been a patient for the last 4 years, in July during a catheter she suffered from a cardiac arrest and was admitted to PICU and placed on the transplant list. During her stay on PICU she suffered 5 more cardiac arrests, each time she was saved by the staff. We were blessed when the doctor found a new heart for her, by that point Amelia was critically ill and would most certainly not have survived had she not had the transplant.
Amelia spent a total of 5 months in the Freeman hospital this year, during this time she has received the best possible care, every member of staff on PICU, ward 23 and the surgical staff have gone above and beyond to ensure that everything possible was done to save her life. In this time it was not only Amelia who was looked after, the care and compassion shown to us as parents was second to none, we were kept fully informed of all progress there was and given emotional support when we needed it.
During the run up to Amelias discharge we were trained fully on any requirements she may need once she was home. We have dedicated liason nurses who have given support, not only whilst Amelia was an in-patient but also now that she is home. They have made the transition from hospital to home a lot easier, especially knowing that they are there for support when we need it.
There is nowhere else I would want Amelia to go if she needed to be hospitalised again, the entire staff have been brilliant, their dedication to patients is beyond compare, I am truly grateful for everything that has been done by the staff at the Freeman hospital.
