"Some unfriendly staff and long wait times"

About: Royal Sussex County Hospital

The triage nurses were unfriendly and seemed unorganised. I was asked why I'd come to A&E if I'd already seen my GP and was told I probably had constipation! This is not something I'd ever consider going to hospital for. I went to A&E because I was having severe abdominal pain which was extremely worrying, and it turns out that I may have pancreatitis so it was lucky that I did go to hospital! Was told by the A&E Doctor that I needed a CT scan and further blood tests. Went for the scan and when I returned it turns out that I'd been called by a triage nurse for the blood tests. When I knocked on the door and was greeted rudely and the nurse looked irritated that they had called me and I hadn't been there. This was because I was having a scan! The different teams didn't seem very organised.

I then spent 5hrs in the AMU ward without being seen by the surgical doctor or having a scan which I was told I needed. It got to 11pm (after being in the hospital since 2:30pm) and the staff had no idea when I'd be seen as there was only 1 surgical doctor on duty (which is ridiculous for a Friday night!) so I ended up discharging myself and now have to seek private help.

The staff in the AMU ward (and the A&E GP) were lovely and can't fault them. But they were clearly overworked. This was my first trip to A&E and it left me fairly traumatised and no closer to finding out what's wrong with me.
