"So this is how it's supposed to work!"

About: Royal Devon & Exeter Hospital (Wonford)

I have a collection of rare and complicated conditions and having been in agony and quite literally poisoned by incorrect medication for 2 years prior to moving to RD&E catchment, I was amazed at the professionalism, efficiency and kindness of the staff here. The consultant I saw went above and beyond any behaviour I've ever know for a consultant (non private) by phoning me to discuss test results, admitting me when necessary to enable collaboration with multiple departments quickly to give me some relief from my symptoms. I am honestly amazed by this hospital and its ways of working - same day xrays and consultations on the results - even as an out patient!

The only issue (very minor) I had is once admitted, the privacy and regard for that privacy on the wards is not great. Being below middle age on a ward which is demographically typically of the older generation, I would have liked to have my preference for the curtains partially concealing my bed to be respected rather than opened without consultation. However, a very minor point and in no way affected my treatment or progress.

Thank you for your kind words.

With reference to your comment regarding privacy, patients’ curtains are always closed when care is being delivered.

It can pose difficulty when a patient requests that curtains are closed at other times as due to the design of the ward bays we invariably cannot see the patients beyond the drawn curtains and are therefore unable to observe them.

I am very sorry if this was not fully explained to you at the time as we do everything we can to make sure our patients’ admissions are as comfortable as possible.
