"Breast Centre - just wanted to give credit..."

About: The Great Western Hospital

The service I received at your Breast Centre 5/1/16 evening appointment. I was firstly blown away with how quickly I got in to see the consultant I had only just sat down for about a minute when I was called in by the Nurse.

The Nurse & the Consultant where fantastic & made my experience so relaxed & easy. Then I was taken to a room with other patients waiting for the next procedure, which again I'd not been there for long when I was called in for my Ultrasound, again the Nurse & Ultrasound Technician where fantastic. They were so courteous, considerate & caring which I sincerely appreciated, without making you feel bad when you find out that you don't have a problem & feel like you have wasted their time. I was then asked to wait to speak with the Consultant before leaving just to go through the findings which I had already known. The consultant again was so nice. I was so impressed with the service I had got.

When I first got the call are my appointment, I was disappointed at first as it was an evening appointment & thought you'd not get the same type of care, as at night time the staff might be a little different to the day time staff, or tired as it's coming to the end of their shift. But boy was I wrong, I couldn't have asked for a better bunch of people.

I have had mammograms in the past & they have been so rough that it's not a pleasant experience to endure, I told the Mammogram Technician that evening that I appreciated how gentle they were & my past experiences in New Zealand afterwards I was sore for a couple of days. The other patients in the waiting area, where all talking about their mammogram, laughing & joking but had commented on the angles & contortionists you have to be, how uncomfortable & painful it was, as well as how nice everyone was, I explained that I thought they were gentle & I had experienced a lot worse & having had 3 in the past this one was the most gentle experience of them all.

I think the NHS at times get bad press, since being back in the UK after being away for 10 years I haven't experienced anything bad so far, I have however experienced the best care I could have asked for from all aspects of the NHS not just this Department but in other hospitals in Berkshire and Hampshire in the past year, I can't fault any service I have received. I might have just been lucky. I think the staff are doing an excellent job & are a credit to the Hospital, I hope that all Departments are just as good & in a nice way I don't want to experience any of them at the moment, however if I do I hope to received just as good.

You can tell that the staff really enjoyed their work, it was a pleasure informing the staff how nice they were, to thank them for how they had treated me, which I did prior to leaving. If I have to go through this again, fingers crossed I don't or anyone I knew had to, that I could reassure them & I would know would receive the same care, this I know would help to take the pressure of how nervous you are feeling.
