"Unacceptable service"

Never want to return to ward 12, not even in a nightmare

My GP referred me back to ward 12 on 6/1/16 due to severe abdominal pain following a hysteroscopy on the 29/12/15. I was assessed by the DR & Prescribed antibiotics via IV drip. Due to the intensity of the pain the DR had prescribed me with anti inflammatory pain relief and oral morph. I was already taking pain relief for cancer so oral morph was the only other thing that could be prescribed

I have stayed in ward 15 before & the service is always 5* and the staff amazing. But my stay in ward 12 was absolutely disgraceful, i was amazed with how bad you can actually be treated in a hospital

I asked one of the nurses 3 days after my stay if I can have a pair of new pressure stockings as the existing ones need a wash. I advised them that I am getting cramps in my legs as I'm already on tamoxifin, the answer I got was walk around, you'll be fine . When I said in response to the nurse just say you can't be bothered. They said no they're expensive and walked away

However the above is understandable, there is so much negativity in this environment that may be why the nurses have no motivation or empathy towards patients anymore

The main concern I need to raise is the DR had prescribed me with a max dose of 80mg of ora morph with in 24 hours. I found after taking my regular pain killers which I have been on for 5 years now I was still in severe/chronic pain. Generally when ever I asked the nurses for this medication they would be hesitant to give me it and say manage for a bit longer. But at 8pm on the 7/1 the nurse I spoke to after 9pm advised I was in great need of stronger medication and could they give me the oramorph. I was advised wait for another half hour or an hour. Which I did. Then on a further four occasions I asked for the medication still got wait and you don't need it yet. I was in severe pain and the pain was becoming more intense. Then at around 12:30 when I was reduced to tears the another nurse walked past and I asked them for the medication then it was given to me. I was reduced to tears and humiliation because the nurse decided they are more experienced then the DR's and refused to give me medication. This needs to be feed back to the nurse. The nurses need to stop making assumptions on how they think a patient is feeling & should ask the patient. The irony is the nurses fill in a chart to indicate how much pain the patient is in. I found it hilarious that they had noted I was in no pain.

8/1 The nurse in charge of the ward, they were amazing so friendly compassionate and understanding and they did what their job required them to. Luckily even though I was in still in severe pain they tried their best to help

8/1 Another nurse in charge of shift, the ward was extremely busy yet they helped every patient with a smile. Went above and beyond the call of duty. The best nurse I have ever come across. Please fed this back to the nurses and recognise their work
