"fracture clinic"

About: Blackpool Victoria Hospital

What a joke. My daughter broke her leg 8 weeks ago which has meant regular trips to the fracture clinic. The whole system needs an overhaul, it does not work well. I am currently sat at the at the hospital, our appointment was 9.15am and it is now 10.30am. Today is typical of my experience on every visit.

Check in

Wait an hour for somebody to then send you for an xray

Wait 20 min to get xray

Go back to fracture clinic to wait at least another 60 minutes to see a consultant.

Consultants always running late, no matter what time you come. I have been here first thing and there is already a sign up saying they are running 90 minutes late. How is this possible?

Have they overslept?

I know when I check in that my daughter will need an xray before she sees the consultant. The reception staff, health care staff and everyone else knows she needs an xray before she sees the consultant. Yet, unbelievably I am told we can't go straight for an xray cos we have to wait for the consultant to fill in the form. What a ridiculous waste of their time and a ridiculous system. If it really has to be the consultant then why can't he do them before clinic opens or the night before!

Response from Andrew Heath, Lead in Patient Experience & Engagement, Blackpool Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust

Thank you taking the time to share your recent experience at Blackpool Victoria Hospital.

I am sorry that this experience was not positive and appears to have been very disjointed. This is not the experience we would wish for our patients when they attend our outpatient areas.

I will share your experiences with the divisions responsible so that they can discuss how this can be improved with their respective teams.

It is important that we try and learn from the experience you have told us about so that we can make improvements; it may also help if we can provide a more detailed and individual response to the concerns you have raised. If you feel that this would help, please email a member of my team at patient.relations@bfwhospitals.nhs.uk.

I hope that your daughter s condition has improved since you originally posted this comment.

Thank you once more for taking the time to share your experience

Andrew
