We've had to use the NHS again the last couple of days for my fiance and every single one of them showed so much kindness and good humour. I could pick something that each of them did that was "over and above". That goes for the porters treating him like a best mate, the Triage Nurse who was so understanding and gentle when he was in a state and made sure his blankets never fell off his shoulders, the shuttle bus driver who pulled over to drive us to the car park because it was cold and we were walking with "the princesses" (my daughters) as he called them, the guy bringing food around and giving ice creams to my girls, the endless cups of tea, sandwiches and blankets I was offered by various members of staff (and I wasn't even ill! ) and not to mention of course the nurses and doctors who were putting in 12 hour shifts and doing a fantastic job getting him better so quickly. We probably didn't say thank you enough to each of them for their individual acts of kindness but if you are an NHS worker, this thank you is to you for all the lovely things you do without realising how much it means to patients and loved ones.
Let's hope the NHS doesn't get consigned to the history books.
