What I liked
Some of the staff were very kind and caring.
What could be improved
The care given to terminally ill cancer patients needs to be improved greatly. My Dad was admitted 3 days before he died due to serious complications due to the spread of lung cancer. At his stage of the illness he should have received much more constant care but he was mostly ignored. We were doing all the running round asking for help when we were with him which was all day every day but even things like used sick bowls were left on his bedside table. Two nurses were partcularly cruel to him on the last day of his life saying he had been washed when he said he hadn't. They then changed his pyjamas and they left him lying flat and in pain. He said they had been extremely rough with him so I complained and they were told to come and aplogise to him which he accepted but told them they had to understand that they had to be more gentle. Dad died in the early hours of the morning and I am pretty convinced that staff had not been checking on him as frequently as they should have. The hospital should provide better facilities for cancer patients at the end of their life and satff should be made aware of the treatment required. I only hope that other cancer sufferers and their families do not have to go through the same awful experiences we did in November.
I have written to the Hospital with my concerns but to date have not received a reply - this is perhaps no surprise as it just reflects our experience at the Hospital.
