I'm a 66yr old woman who had many symptoms, which suddenly caused a severe attack of 'Throat spasm'! I was given a choice of hospitals by the NHS, and as I had previously had knee replacements at Mount Stuart Hospital. (Both I was extremely happy with)
I chose Mount Stuart again. After a few consultations and change from omeprazole to esomeprazole, I was scheduled a few tests; Gastroscopy & 24hr 'Acid Test'. At each stage the procedures & results were explained & discussed with me. The depth of explanation always at the level requested:- ie; a little or a lot.(I opted for in-depth discussion, but not everyone may want to know exactly what & how things will be done. So you can tell them & only get to know as little or much as you want) My Consultant, no doubt like all the Consultants there, was extremely approachable and easy to talk to. I felt very 'cared for', plus the operation was very successful & all the pain, discomfort & various throat, chest, back ,voice & sore watering eyes problems have gone. My case was termed as 'Silent reflux' so more difficult to diagnose. Thankfully experience doctors recognised it & the correct tests helped to prove the diagnosis. My life is back to normal now.
