I had an emergency admission for peritonitis caused by a perforated gangrenous appendix.
The hospital was remarkably very clean. Although A and E was obviously very busy I was treated efficiently and with care, investigation was thorough and I was operated on the same night by an excellent team, who managed to do keyhole surgery despite the difficulties I presented. All was clearly explained to me and every doctor showed compassion despite being busy and tired. The surgeon got home at 2am but was at my bedside at 8am and no doubt with a full day/night ahead. As a retired GP with 3 years of hospital work in the '70s I am well aware of the punitively heavy workloads and excessive hours worked by hospital doctors as well as the stress caused by responsibility for patients' lives and inadequate time in their schedules for their own rest/ relaxation. Having read that Kings Mill was judged inadequate I was wary of how I would be treated but can only compliment the staff for their hard work.
Thank you to all involved in my care.
"Excellent emergency and surgical care"
