"Still no date for breast cancer surgery"

About: Kingston Hospital / Breast surgery The Royal Marsden Hospital (Surrey) / Breast surgery

(as a carer),

First thing first, the treatment from the medical staff at the breast cancer unit is top class. So this story is more about the communication and the delay in getting the operation for my wife. I am writing this on behalf of my wife.

About six months ago my wife was diagnosed with triple negative breast cancer. Following the consultation with Dr Davies we opted for having chemotherapy first then surgery. We have no complaint about the treatment that my wife received from the hospital. It is just the lack of communication.

From the beginning we were told to always communicate through our breast cancer nurse. However, our nurse seems to be the busiest person in the hospital and has never returned our messages or email. They are very bad at communication and even forgot to send my wife's file to the doctor for my wife's first appointment at another location. All in all I think the nurse is making my wife more anxious about her treatment rather than reassuring or helping her.

The purpose of this post is to write about the lack of communication and care from the hospital after my wife's chemotherapy. We were told that the surgery should happen within 3-4 weeks of last chemotherapy. It is more than 3 weeks now and we still haven't received any contact from the hospital surgery team.

Is it right to let a cancer patient who has gone through painful six months of chemotherapy to go through the uncertainty and anxiousness. I would like to raise this with the management at Kingston hospital now so that they can take action before anything bad happens to my wife. She also complains about her continuous backpain.

She has done so well to get through her painful chemotherapy and we really don't want to be let down by the delay of having her surgery. We also don't know whether the delay will have any negative impact on her body.

Please can someone from Kingston hospital or Royal Marsden help us?
