"The communication between the ..."

About: Lister Hospital

(as the patient),

What could be improved

The communication between the doctors and the nurses in the neonatal unit was poor. This was not primarally down to the nurses, but down to the doctors. This meant that major mistakes were made in the care of my baby. They were trying to deal with a problem that was above their capability and it lead to her becoming severely ill before she was transferred for the appropriate care. I will not be allowing my daughter to go back to the lister once she is well enough to be transferred back closer to home as I have lost all faith and trust in their care. The nurses were lovely however some of the doctors have a lot to answer for and need to work on communicating better with both the nurses and more importantly the PARENTS!

You sound very disappointed about what happened at the Lister's neonatal unit receently, so thank you for telling us how you feel.

Of course you may have made a formal complaint already, but if not then we would encourage you to do so as this case does sound like it warrants investigation to ensure that lessons are learnt.

All you need do is send your complaint, by e-mail, to patcomplaints.enh-tr@nhs.net. You will get a full copy of the ensuing investigation's findings and a formal apology where failings in your daugther's care are found. We think that's the least you both deserve.
