In May 2015 I had a double ablation under the care of a doctor and their amazing team. I went in a nervous wreck and ready to run away in my pj's the minute I could find the way out.
The nurses kept me calm and relaxed and they all did everything they could to make the operation as stressfree and painless as possible.
I felt frightened and thought that I was going to die either from the problem I was suffering from (Wolf Parkinson White) or from fear itself.
The operation was done under sedation so I knew what was going on but the time seemed to pass extremely fast and was completely pain free.
One and a half hours later I was on the phone to my husband to tell him I had had it done and I was out of theatre. He couldn't believe it - he thought I was ringing to say I couldn't go through with it.
I want to tell all those out there who are afraid to have a heart operation.
There was no-one more afraid than me.
I was able to go back to work a few days later and drive and do exercise a few days later.
How amazing is that?
I had no quality of life and spent my time either on the floor trying to breathe and get my heart rate back to normal or in casualty.
I have been given another lease of life and I intend to live life to the full.
My heart is now normal for the first time since I was born - don't hesitate if you have Wolf Parkinson White to get it sorted!!
Thank you to the doctor and all the team for everything - you do an amazing job - I will never forget what you have done for me!
Happy new year!
