"Concerns about my wife's care at Crosshouse"

About: Crosshouse Hospital / General Surgery

(as a parent/guardian),

During my wives numerous admittance via A@E to Crosshouse hospital during the period 20014 to date, we have felt that they have consistently failed to address our concerns. At one point we were told by a doctor that we had to stop relying on them to help resolve our issues.

Every issue raised is backed up by medical records, which we feel point to the lack of competence shown by the consultants tasked with my wife's complex medical requirements, due to a rare form of cancer and resulting treatment.

When attempting to challenge poor decisions we were completely fobbed of with various speeches designed to make us believe that it was us that had the problem and that the surgical team were doing their best to provide the best possible care for her ongoing medical needs.

It was a recent admission to Ayr A@E that further evidence of the poor care we feel my wife has suffered at the hands of the surgical team at Crosshouse came to light. It was confirmed to us that scans taken at Crosshouse as far back as June 2015, and recently December 2015, clearly show blocked arteries as a result of radiotherapy yet no consultant took the time to look properly at these scans.

As a matter of great concern we have requested an open meeting with senior management and to include a consultant with a level of knowledge to help explain the systematic failures of various consultants in my wives care. This has resulted in a mother in her early 40s having now undergone a major life saving operation resulting in a permanent stoma bag.

I respond initially to most of the posts and ensure they are passed to the appropriate team whether they are compliments, observations or grumbles. It is important to make sure all issues are addressed and I try to encourage that to happen for all the posts as required.

Dear Jascal,

I am so sorry you and your wife have both had such a difficult time and feel you have unresolved issues. You are right to discuss this with senior management. There are other avenues to explore if you remain unhappy with the outcome; however, I hope you get the resolution you need. I can provide you with the details of the other avenues should you consider that to be necessary.

Kind regards,

Eunice
