What could be improved

I am very concerned about the inefficiencies in the appointments system at South Wing. My 84 year old father, who is not well, had three appointments recently in one afternoon which took three hours because of the extraordinary system where a large number of patients attend at the same time. Why can't you operate a proper appointments system when a time means you are seen at that time?

Anything else?

Yes - we checked that the three appointments the following week were necessary especially since one was with the same doctor. When we arrived the following week we checked again. My father's notes were not there. He waited as told then the doctor saw him. He asked why my father was back so soon. We wondered why too. He then said my father should have an X ray. He'd had that the previous week. Then a blood test was suggested. My father had also had that the previous week. There were no notes on file.

Is there any possibility that this hospital is perhaps not doing its job properly?

Our outpatient clinics - with the exception of blood tests and plain film x-ray which offer a walk-in service - operate on a timed appointment system. There may be several consultants and registrars holding clinics at one time in the same specialty area, which may mean there a number of patients waiting to be seen at the same time.
