"Thank you"

About: St Helier Hospital

They saved my son. Unfortunately I had a difficult pregnancy and had a lot of complications including gestational diabetes, hypertension, massive fibroids and so baby was seriously at risk. They picked up on things early on and I had excellent care. I was looked after by a very experienced and intelligent consultant who made sure I had timely care and due attention. The consultant ensured I had second opinions at st George's when necessary, and gave me my steroid injections well in time as they could foresee the early arrival of my baby, without my having any symptoms at all. I started having contractions spontaneously at 29weeks and the consultant was on their way home after work when they were informed that my baby wasn't 'happy'. The consultant turned right around and came back to hospital, delivering my baby by emergency c section within minutes. I later found out how close my baby was to perishing as his heart rate was rapidly dropping, his cord was wrapped around his neck, the biggest fibroid I had had started rotting and my blood pressure was soaring. The timely action by the midwives on the labour ward and professionalism and skill of the consultant saved my baby and I can't thank them enough. The post natal ward leaves something to be desired but if you don't spend long there it doesn't matter. Labour team and ward are par excellence. Neonatal Unit where my son spent many weeks is also very good. Basically a clean (if slightly old fashioned) maternity unit where I felt safe, cared for and in capable hands. Wouldn't hesitate to have another one here.
