"Urgent treatment of a quincy"

About: Royal Derby Hospital

My husband became unable to swallow his own saliva and had difficulty breathing. His GP had informed him it was a viral sore throat.Staff in A and E were just great. They listened to our concerns.Examined him promptly.Gave immediate pain relief and sent for the ENT doctor on duty.We were happy to wait in an area where we felt staff were very busy but polite, pleasant and treated all the people that night in a pleasant respectful manner. The reception staff were very clued in and we were really relieved to be listened to by them.We feel this helped us to get the help we needed. The ENT doctor communicated well, they were very pleasant and fully explained what their diagnosis was-the remedy was unpleasant but relatively quick-we were reassured that the condition left untreated is very serious and can only be treated in hospital. We both feel very grateful. My husband was briefly taken to a ward to have drugs administered by IV-again lovely staff and we were free to go home a short time later after being given advice/information and medication to take at home.We cannot fault the amazing staff and help given. There has now arrived a follow up appointment to review my husband in a few weeks time
