I was scheduled for elective total hip replacement on new years eve. i have been waiting for 7 months now since my gp referral and was told that the op date hadoriginally been delayed due to noro virus back in november. My surgery has now been cancelled this afternoon- just hours to go. A telephone message was left to ring admissions and i then spent a frustrating three hours telephoning to discover that the list had been cancelled- once again due to noro. I am desparate, no offer of a new date or adequate explanation was offered. I could now be waiting further weeks as had already been told that elective surgery was cancelled in Jan and Feb. What is going on? How are people expected to manage in the meantime? At what point could I be offered an alternative venue eg Clifton Park? I have a full time job to go to - which I am struggling to attend due to pain, my whole life has neen put on hold and I am very distressed because of this further delay.
If the only way to receive adequate and timely health care is to pursue a private route what about those of us who cant afford it?
When will somebody please tell me when I will be seen? How do I get any help please?
"late cancellation of elective surgery -"
