Feeling Abandoned by Renal Services
Leicester General Hospital - Renal Services
I am an new renal patient having been referred from my local hospital (who have been fantastic) for the insertion of my PD line and so far, my experience of LRI has been very disappointing. From OPD running over 1hr late with no communication, to pre-op assessment nurse who couldn’t perform an ECG correctly. However, the surgery date came and all was well. But I developed a problem with my new line. I saw my own renal team who agreed the line had become dislodged and we needed the advise of the specialists at LRI. My consultant contact LRI and I was sent home to wait, having been told someone would be in touch the next day I am still waiting.
Unfortunately, my PD came out completely and despite numerous attempt by my Renal Nurse, local consultant and myself, we cannot make contact with anyone who is offering us help. I appreciate it’s the Christmas/New Year Period and this may not be a priority but it is to me. I have questions that need answering and need a plan of ongoing care. I am very disappointed at the lack of communication and/or assistance and whilst I understand things take time, just a phone call and some reassurance that it’s being dealt with would go along way to relieve what is becoming a very anxious and stressful time for me.
