My Dad was diagnosed with terminal lung cancer and was too ill to have chemotherapy. Sadly he spent the last 2 1/2 weeks of his life on Westcliffe and Rochford wards. The care he received in that time was amazing, in fact it would not have been better if he had been a private patient. During the last 3 days of his life he was put into a side ward which gave us the opportunity to be with him for the time he had left, and we never left him day or night. The staff were brilliant ! They supported us in every way they could. They made sure my Dad was comfortable at all times and they were so kind, understanding and caring. I have never experienced a team of such dedicated and caring Doctors and nurses in all my life. The nurses brought us drinks, blankets and pillows and were always there for us if we needed them. It helped us all so much as a family to be able to see my Dad end his life with the dignity that he deserved to have and also that we had received.
You allowed us to spend the precious time we had left with my dad by his side and as easy as possible for us . Thank you, thank you, thank you Southend hospital and the staff on Westcliffe and Rochford wards, you are all amazing !
