"Christmas Day"

I came to visit Christmas day and was appalled by the staff on duty. They were too busy standing around the nurses station eating chocolates to take someone to the toilet. After 5 minutes of ringing I had to walk up to them and ask for assistance. One particular nurse was very rude and unhelpful. They then proceeded to shout down the ward for all to hear that they needed to go to the toilet and could they have some help. Total lack of dignity and respect.

Was there from 2-5.30 and not one cup of tea for the patients.

come on it may be Christmas but people still need care, attention and fluids.

As a nurse myself I would have expected better.

I am sorry that during a visit to our hospital you found the standard of care given by the staff to be unacceptable. I agree that patients should not have to wait to be helped to the toilet while staff stand around. I have spoken with the staff from both Jersey and Guernsey wards who were on duty on Christmas afternoon and will speak to all other staff members who were on duty that afternoon when they return to work.

I have reiterated how important it is for us to meet the needs and respect the dignity of our patients and their relatives at all times.
