"Confusing and disorganised."

About: Rosie Hospital

Throughout our pregnancy, we were given confusing advice and sometimes told completely different things by nurses, doctors and midwives.

We were booked in and told to prepare for an induction on an agreed date. The date arrived, they weren't ready for us. After 8 hours, they were ready. We arrived, they weren't ready. We were eventually given a bed, then left for 5 hours before being told that the induction would start the following day.

They started the process, then stopped the process because they had no space in the birthing unit if my partner actually went in to labour.

5 days later, after a lot of confusion and fear, we were finally in a position to go to the birthing unit.

At times I was made to feel unwelcome by the midwife and was completely ignored and ordered around.

I did not enjoy any part of this life changing moment thanks to the complete ineptitude of your staff and department.

Thank you for taking the time to describe your experiences at the Rosie Hospital.

I am sorry to learn that you did not feel that you and your partner were clearly informed and that there were delays.

It can be difficult to accurately schedule inductions of labour due to the unpredictable nature of maternity services, meaning that it can be difficult to predict the capacity of the delivery unit.

We have to ensure that there are sufficient staff and resources to safely care for the women and their babies.

However, we strive to communicate well with our patients and I am sorry to hear that you and your partner found the situation confusing and fearful, and that you felt unwelcome.

If you would like us to look into your individual circumstances and respond to you personally, please do not hesitate to contact the Patient Advice and Liaison Service (PALS) on 01223 216756 or email pals@addenbrookes.nhs.uk.

I hope you are now able to enjoy family life.
