My Father in-law suffers with a form of dementia the problem is he is only 54yrs old he has had this condition since his mid forties. I feel the system is failing him in that there is no where to house him in the local area. We live in the West Midlands and so far he has been transferred to Walthamstow to Atherstone and now Northampton.
In my opinion the poor bloke is wasting away before our eyes and I think it’s not due to his condition but the fact he has no stable ground. They keep moving him really far and we feel he has no real contact with his family and friends.
It’s also worrying that the home he is currently in is the pits, to me the place seems dark and musty, people seem cramped in like sardines. I think they also charge an arm and a leg per week because there is only a few of these care homes.
My father in-law has been there two months and the only time he has left the building if to have a ciggy in the yard.
I am a support worker and have worked in care for over 11 yrs and I am disappointed that there is no help or advice for people in our situation. All we want is for him to be close to his family so we can give him some quality of life.
I welcome anyone who’s got any advice or suggestions that could help.
