I had been suffering from the winter virus for a week, it got much worse resulting in blood being coughed up so I phoned 111 and was told that I needed to go to A&E. The receptionist and the Triage nurse were very kind and polite. There was a short wait before I was called in as the waiting room was full they were obviously very busy. As soon as I was called I was seen by the doctor who was very friendly, respectful and listened intently to me before sending me for an x ray. I managed to walk to x ray but the concerned Doctor sent a Staff Nurse after me with a porterage chair which when first offered I thought I didn't need, so I could be wheeled back as I was struggling to breathe. The x ray dept too was very busy with only one radiographer to service all the patients yet they x rayed me within 15 minutes and then wheeled me back to A&E!
On return to A&E the Staff Nurse monitored me closely did blood pressure as before, the doctor came and whisked me very quickly into the other room where I was given an ECG, bloods taken, blood pressure done and blood sugars tested. I was eventually diagnosed with pneumonia in my right lung, prescribed antibiotics and an inhaler and discharged to go back home to my bed.
On the whole I can only highly praise all of the Staff who looked after me, they were very caring, very friendly and put me at ease, they were an expert team and I'm grateful they were there for me when I needed them. I will never again rely on shop bought remedies they do not and cannot fix serious illnesses like Pneumonia, sufferers need the expertise of medical personnel such as we have at Stafford hospital, they are needed 24/7!
