"Admitted via Emergency Department - Diagnosis..."

About: Royal Bournemouth General Hospital

On 10 December a colleague took me to the Bournemouth hospital Emergency Department as I was experiencing severe lower abdominal pains. I was treated with respect and every base was covered to find the cause of my pain, ultrasound, xray then finally CT Scan the following morning. The doctors, nurses and porters were all wonderful. Every step was explained to me. I went from emergency to ward 18 and I can only give high praise to the staff. On Friday evening I was transferred to ward 17, where I was looked after extremely well both before and after my op. I just wish I could remember everyone's names so that they could be recognised.

I was originally going to have my op on Friday evening, however there was an emergency and it was postponed to the following morning, the surgeon actually took the time to come up to inform me of this themselves.

I cannot praise the consultants, surgeons, anaethetists, doctors, nursing staff highly enough. They are busy (understatement) short staffed and yet do a fantastic job! I consider myself very blessed to have had such dedicated people looking after me.

Although I have selected Accident and Emergency as the department I visited please make sure the staff on wards 17 and 18 are recognised too.

A huge thank you!!

Dear Ms Bell

We thank your colleagues for bringing you to our Emergency Department and you for your kind comments, it is always uplifting for the staff to hear such heartfelt praise from the patients they look after and treat. As you note staff work hard to provide the best care they can and knowing it made such a difference to you will be a huge reward to them.

We always aim to ensure all our patients are treated with respect and kept well informed throughout the investigation and diagnosis so it is good to know we got this right for you as you were transferred from ED to ward 18 and that it was swift and smooth.

I am sorry your operation had to be postponed due to an emergency but thank you for your understanding, as these decisions are often difficult to make and especially when you are the one who has to wait a little longer. I am pleased to hear the surgeon came to explain to you personally.

We hope you are now recovering well from your surgery and wish you well for the future.

We always share the comments from this website and will send to the Matrons and Ward Sisters to share with the teams you mentioned, and also the Doctors and senior managers.

Again thank you for taking the time to share your comments.

Regards Sue Mellor Head of Patient Engagement
