I recently spent nearly a week in the cardiac unit, following open heart surgery. I had the night before my operation in Stannon and in ICU, High Dependency and Clearbrook afterwards.
Everyone I encountered, from domestic staff upwards, were wonderful - caring, diligent and respectful. I really cannot fault anyone. The surgical staff were marvellous too, of course, but once your operation is done you don't see too much of them until discharge is being discussed. This isn't a criticism - these guys obviously need to be operating on other people.
The wards were all very hot, despite one nurse telling me that sometimes they're too cold (hard to believe). Clearbrook was like a sauna even though a window was open throughout. Sleep was hard to come by but I'm sure that isn't unique to this hospital.
The food didn't appeal to me but, hey, I wasn't there for the cuisine.
Overall I can thoroughly recommend surgery at the Unit, should you be in the unfortunate position to need it. You couldn't be in better hands.
