My name is Kevin Mitchell and I visited the ENT department at Torbay Hospital in the afternoon of the 14th December 2015.
From the time of my arrival within level 2 I was given directions to the ENT department and was soon sitting with others in the waiting area. My allocated time came and went but there was a notice to say that all appointments were approximately thirty minutes late, that was the only negative. I was taken in to meet with a doctor / consultant who could not have been more pleasant, explaining everything they were about to do.
I had asked to see a specialist because I was worried that the symptoms I was experiencing could be cancer of the throat. This very kind doctor made me feel at ease. They took great pains to examine me carefully, externally and internally and their words having completed the examination were the best Christmas present I could have hoped for, "There is absolutely no sign of cancer".
I felt I wanted to thank the doctor personally. They and their assistant were most kind and the longer wait I had had was soon forgotten. That reassurance enables me to get on with my life with much less worry though I still have some symptoms which may need further investigation but for now I can look forward to being with my wife, family and friends and perusing my favourite hobby of sailing when next season comes.
A big thank you to all the NHS staff who have assisted me over the years and given me a much more comfortable life. Merry Christmas and I hope you all have a good 2016 and beyond.
