"Disrespectful, dirty, disinterested D2 Ward"

About: Royal Bolton Hospital

Having visited Mum briefly today, I was astonished by the state of her room. The bin was overflowing, there was debris and papers on the floor and the plastic bed layer, strewn on a chair next to an open packet of wipes. The wall mounted hand gel dispenser was empty too. A serious infection waiting to happen. I informed a nurse at the Station and was informed it would be seen too soon. After 2-1/2 hours it hadn't been. When the nurse informed me that Mum was being treated for a chest infection, I was not surprised but am now extremely concerned about the well being of my Mum. Having been admitted after cracking two ribs in a fall and suspected gastroenteritis, one staff member asked how Mum's sight was. Being partially sighted in one eye and blind in the other, suffering from dementia, she gets very disorientated and frightened when not in familiar surroundings. Her mobility is impaired and with added pain of cracked ribs, needs special care and attention. The staff were not interested in her wellbeing at all. Were dismissive of my questions, unfriendly, unapproachable and incoherent with their accent! They hadn't a clue what was happening with Mum? All very worrying. She was also told to soil herself in her incontinence pants, instead of distubing them for assistance to get to the loo. Thus risking further infection.

I Am watching this scenario! Making detailed notes and photographic evidence should anything untoward happen! It is totally unacceptable, degrading and mum deserves respect, care and attention.

We're very sorry to hear this. This has been brought to the attention of the matron in charge of this area who has been to the ward to look into these issues. She would like to speak to you about your concerns. As your posting is anonymous please would you call our switchboard on 01204 390272 and ask to bleep Claire Stott. Thank you
