About: Wansbeck Hospital

I had an appointment on Saturday the 12 December at Wansbeck Hospital. My appointment was for 9.30 am. However, after waiting to see the Dr after about 20 mins I was approached by a nurse who informed me that the doctor had not turned up for their clinic and that the staff were trying to get in touch with them but without success as the doctor not answering any of their phones. After waiting a further 15mins I was approached by the senior Nurse who informed me that they had got in touch with the doctor and that they had gone away for the weekend but no explanation was given as to why this had happened. There was another lady there who had been there for an hour before me.

I think this is absolutely disgraceful that a consultant who has a clinic could not be bothered to turn up for their clinic and keep staff and patients waiting without no explanation whatsoever. I have therefore made a formal complaint about this matter via PALS and hopefully they can get to the bottom of this to find out why they did not turn up for their clinic.

Dear Sir/Madam

My sincere apologies you have not received a response before now. The situation you describe concerning your appointment is unacceptable and I’m pleased that you are discussing this with PALS who will work with us to look into this further so we can understand why there were patients booked into a clinic scheduled during a leave period.

Kind regards

Claire Riley, director of communications and corporate affairs
