"Care at home is a great service but needs to expand"

About: Carewatch (Inverclyde) (Ayrshire) (Dunbartonshire) (Argyll & Bute) North Ayrshire Council - Three Towns, North Coast and Arran

(as a service user),

The carers are quite good but it would be better if the same ones came each day. Then they know where things are. I’ve been having lots of different people coming and they don’t know where things are; it’s better for them and for me.

I don’t know what will happen once Carewatch stops providing the service and the council starts – there are not enough carers living on Arran – I hope they manage to get it organised.

Care at home is a great service all the same. It needs to expand so that people don’t get stuck in hospital. People should be able to live and die at home – there are good carers so there is no reason this should not be possible.

Dear Lamlashman

Thank you for your message.

Leaving Arran was a very difficult decision to come to, however we were not managing to recruit local staff to a sustainable level and have been relying on staff from the mainland, which can sometimes be difficult and out with our control, especially in winter time. This can also lead to a number of different carers attending visits rather than having a consistant team who understand your needs and how you like things to be done.

North Ayrshire Council will be delivering your support. All our Arran staff transfered to the Council and I know are working hard to make sure you get familiar staff.

If we can be of any assistance in the future please do not hesitate to contact us on 01294 608222.

Kind regards Anna Houston, Managing Director

Dear Lamlashman,

Many thanks for taking the time to get in touch with us to let us know about your experiences and hopes for care at home services on the Isle of Arran.

We have been working very closely with Carewatch to confirm that we are able to ensure that we are consistent in the services that we deliver to those who need them.

As part of us ensuring service provision, we are now in the process of recruiting new staff onto our care at home service and have just recently appointed a new Care at Home Manager to oversee this process through to a conclusion.

I hope that this response helps answer your concerns but please do not hesitate to contact me on 01294310222 if you wish to discuss the matter further?

Best Wishes

Anthony Fisher

Team Manager
