I'm grateful to Charing Cross Hospital for all the help and support I received.
After ultrasound and biopsies by the gentle, kind and professional consultant in late July 2015, the diagnosis of breast cancer and (a small amount of) axilla spread was very sensitively explained to me by another consultant and the breast nurse specialist. Further tests to determine distant spread were ordered and carried out within a short time. Throughout this process the breast nurse specialist was very helpful (and goes the extra mile).
After tests, I met another friendly and reassuring consultant who gave a thorough examination and persuaded me to have a mammogram, which was carried out by a radiographer, who took great care to ensure minimum discomfort (I was still bruised from the biopsies).
I gained a most positive impression of the Breast services team. Aside from the diagnostic information, they gave support and kindness to me at a difficult time and made the process of acceptance of breast cancer and the surgery I would have to undergo much easier.
My local hospital, the Royal Free, carried out wide excision and axilla clearance in early September 2015. There have been some complications but I am well.
