(as a relative),

Just started using this service which offers support for my dad who has dementia. This is a great service which allows my mum to get much needed respite from caring for my dad full-time. This can take a lot out of my mum and during the time the social worker is there she can have time to herself to go out for lunch without worrying.

This service gives my mum a break and although a bit apprehensive at first about leaving my dad he is fine and well looked after by his worker. My mum looks forward to the time she has to herself. Although this service is for my dad due to him having dementia it also is for the family especially mum as caring for someone with dementia is 24/7 and she needs looked after too.

Many thanks for taking the time out to contact us about your experience of our Dementia Support Service in North Ayrshire.

It is a service that is designed to be wrapped around those who need it most and you rightly point out the benefits in terms of carer respite that it brings too and I am pleased to hear that the service is assisting your mother to have a break from her role as main carer.

When we set the service up it was fully designed to be two fold in terms of direct one to one support for the person with dementia and to allow carers to get the opportunity to have a break.
