"Unexpected admission"

About: Harrogate District Hospital

I collapsed at a church coffee morning, and an ambulance was called. It arrived quickly, and the paramedics worked with a doctor who was present, carrying out tests including an ECG. It was decided that I needed to be taken to A and E for further tests and observation. After arriving at A and E, I was put in a cubicle and seen promptly by a nurse who took a blood sample. A junior doctor then examined me and took notes. They were then joined by a senior doctor who asked more questions and carried out further examination. It was decided that I should be moved to a ward where I had another ECG and blood test, and was put on a heart monitor. All this was done by a ward sister who was kind, considerate and efficient. I was seen by another doctor, and later by a consultant who explained what they considered to be the cause of my collapse. I was then allowed to go home. I experienced the highest standard of care from beginning to end, and it reinforced my opinion of this excellent hospital.
