"5 days of highs and lows !!!!"

About: Medway Maritime Hospital

Good and bad experience started with not being able to get in the maternity ward for induction! Even though she was booked in. Went to mcu for monitoring midwife tried to send us home without checking the notes!!!! My wife was high risk pregnancy!!! Sent home with the promise we would be in by the evening. By the time my wife was on the ward the baby's heart rate was high due to dehydration ???? witch made the midwives and doctors pay some attention ??? By the time the heart rate was down enough for induction to start it was 3 am. I feel that because my wife had to stay on the moniter and was not let to urinate she picked up an infection which caused kidney pain coupled with better positions for monitoring but not my wife with extreme contractions made 24 hours of the pessary torture for my wife with the constant monitoring and trying to wake the baby up for a better heart reading the only positive thing from 24 hours on pearl was the midwife looking after my wife during the day who was excellent. So pessary out and 24 hour rest day was quickly changed to delivery suite and water breaking and hormone day started realy well the midwife was great made my wife comfortable with a great bedside manner and reassuring nature urine test made at are request (still no results) waters where broken and hormones started epidural requested 3 attempts failed 2 different holes made 4th attempt partially worked needing topping up with something stronger ended up so numb my wife couldn't not feel contractions 12 hours in we had a change of midwife bit dissapointed at first but the new one was also excellent realy took care of my wife infection reared its head mid labour with wife's tempreture spiking they dealt with it quickly and well delivery ended up being difficult with kiwi cup being used and some tearing but baby arrived healthy after care in delivery suite was fine after another change of midwife wasn't with her long enough to make an impression but I would note my wife's cannular was taking out even though they wanted her on antibiotics for 24 hours the birth was 5 am she wanted out of the hospital so we went home by 8pm but ended up back the next day for breastfeeding help the coach was excellent got my wife breastfeeding properly although very distressing the team made my wife very comfortable and supported her well on Kent ward but I will say all the midwives should sing off the same Hyme sheet ask 5 midwives the same question and get 5 different answers lots of highs and lows lack of rest and sleep made my wife extremely tired mentally and physically witch I think needs to be considered when you expect a women to do one of the hardest things you can do in life there was some failings but the majority of the staff made it bearable with the formentioned staff giving exceptional care to my wife
