"About how long I have waited to get my knee fixed."

About: St John's Hospital / Trauma & orthopaedics

(as the patient),

I have been attending my gP for years about my knee pain all I got was pain killers over the years they were changed to find out what one is better for me. I am now on co/ codomol after about 12 years having x/ rays and going through terrible pain, my knee has finally packed in. I have had an x/ray 6 months ago my doctor says the bones are rubbing together and breaking up. fragments of bone have shown up on the x/ray. he had referred me to a specialist but I have been waiting 6 months now and the pain is unbearable. I do not get a proper sleep at night tossing and turning. I now walk with a walking stick and my way of life is completely changed. I am 75 in January they say that your overweight but what can you do if you are not fit to walk and it leads to comfort eating because the pain killers are no good.

Dear Severe pain,

I am really sorry to hear about your difficulties and pain that you have been experiencing in your knee, it sounds as though you have had a difficult few months.

I would be happy to look into what has been happening as it does sound as though you have been waiting for a long time. I wonder if you can please contact me at the Patient Experience Team (feedback@nhslothian.scot.nhs.uk) or on telephone 0131 536 3370.

I look forward to heraing from you.

Kind regards

Jeannette Morrison
