"The Phoenix unit and Pharmacy"

About: Sunderland Royal Hospital

Having attended the Phoenix unit for the last 3 years, the staff including admin and the volunteers are second to none. However i think the patients and staff of the Phoenix unit are being constantly let down by the Pharmacy.

It is very rare for chemo being there on time, yesterday and again today my chemo didn't arrive till 1 hour and 1and a half after appointment time despite the effort of the nurses to get it quicker, this not only is causing chair blocking but it also affects the staff ,as not only do they constantly have to play catch up but have to deal with the anger of disgruntled patients, I have seen with my own eyes how nurses go without lunch break rather than cause more delays for patients.

I find it hard to believe that a unit which uses the most expensive drugs in the hospital does not have a dedicated pharmacist so things run smoothly. I have been on ward B28 who have a pharmacist and things run very smoothly and i thing the Phoenix unit would benefit greatly from the same setup and think that this needs to be looked into
