"horrible waiting times @children a&e"

About: Queen's Hospital (Romford)

I had to take my one years old to Queens children a&e last night. First, nurse told us that we will need to wait around 2 hours to see a doctor. I thought that it is reasonable for winter time and I can handle 2 hours wait with ill little one. But after 3 hours wait we were told that waiting time would be 4 - 4.5 hours in total. Few kids were vomiting in the waiting room, parents just trying to do their best in a cramped waiting area. first time in my life I thought that I need to find a private family doctor.

Why can't you have few GPs at children a&e, just to managed milder cases? 4-5 hours wait for kids???? It's unacceptable!!!

Thank you for taking the time to make us aware of your experience, I was very sorry to read of the long wait you encountered in our Paediatric A&E department. There is a GP walk-in service that is available at the Harold Wood Polyclinic where patients can get access to see a GP, and this service is available from 8.00am until 8.00pm every day (including weekends and bank holidays). Unfortunately, we are not able to determine how many patients are going to access our Emergency Department on any one day and patients that do access the service are triaged based on their clinical need, which can sometimes result in a patient waiting longer than originally anticipated. If however, you would like your concerns investigated, please contact me through our PALS team on 01708 435 454, or by email PALS@bhrhospitals.nhs.uk.

Your Sincerely

Dr Nadeem Moghal

Medical Director
