Had the unfortunate need to attend your a&e department this weekend with my mother who has advanced dementia. I cannot emphasise just how stressful this can be and how an agitated person can be made much worse in a strange environment. The whole stressful experience was made soo much easier to bear by the amazing staff we encountered- from reception at a&e to consultant and everyone in between, radiology, CT scan everyone went above and beyond to ensure my mums comfort and dignity and to keep us informed and consulted about care decisions. Resus staff were amazing, AMU 1 likewise, as a healthcare professional myself I can honestly say they treated mum as an individual and this is vitally important. A massive thank you to you all..... I would also like to mention a young member of staff who was working on AMU1 the morning of 6th Dec, I do not know their name unfortunately I believe they were a healthcare assistance although they did not deal with mum as we were able to provide her care needs they were amazing at looking after another patient who was distressed and appeared to have some cognition issues , she had been agitated all night and very unsettled- they showed such care and attention to her and the change in her just from a little TLC was amazing to see, Well done you whoever you are!
