"Anticoagulant (warfarin) clinic"

About: Cumberland Infirmary

(as the patient),

An article recently appeared in the local newspaper (Evening News and Star) that the above clinic is to close. From my knowledge there has been no public consultation and the patients, mostly elderly, are very confused as to where they will have to go for their regular blood tests. A letter was sent to patients a few weeks ago which stated that the clinic may close, but not without prior consultation - this contradicts the newspaper article.

I would urge everyone who is worried or concerned about the possible closure of the clinic to write to the Trust, and post their opinions on this website.

Shortly before the news was broken in the newspaper an article appeared singing the praises of the warfarin clinic and staff - they had been nominated for an award of excellence!

Thank you for taking the time to share your concerns with us.NHS Cumbria would like to reassure patients that in developing anticoagulation services in GP practices, patients who already attend the Warfarin Clinic at the Cumberland Infirmary will continue to do so unless they wish to change to a GP service which they feel is more convenient.
