About: Birmingham Women's Hospital

Disgraceful my daughter went in Friday to be induced she had already dilated 1cm she was told yesterday she would be going down to delivery suite to have her waters broken but there just waiting for a bed, a nurse on last nights shift was very rude and made a personal comment to her, she still hasn't got the bed in the delivery suite

Thank you for your feedback regarding your daughter’s stay in hospital.

I'm sorry that a member of staff was rude to your daughter and that she had a long wait to go to Delivery Suite so her waters could be broken.

This is certainly not what we want our parents to experience, and we are disappointed to learn you did not experience the excellent communication and care we strive to have, which are part of our Trust Values.

Our values include treating all our women with dignity and respect. I apologise that a member of staff did not follow the values on this occasion and this is not acceptable. I will be speaking to the night staff to try to ascertain who was involved and to take action so that it does not happen again.

You do not state who the individual was. Please do not hesitate to contact us if you wish to take it further.

Our PALS number is 0121 607 2747.

Our Trust Values are being reinforced by new service improvement training which is being rolled out to our staff.

As a result of your feedback we are ensuring ward staff are aware of your concerns and that personal remarks are not acceptable under any circumstances.

As you do not give your daughter’s name I am unable to comment about your her case but unfortunately the workload in the hospital does not always allow us to transfer women as quickly as we would like. I am sorry that this was the situation when your daughter was on the ward. I hope that by now she has given birth safely.

We value your comments as they assist us to improve the care we give. Thank you for taking the time to share them.

Best wishes,

Amy Maclean, Head of Patient Experience
