"Ambulance transport and appointments"

About: Raigmore Hospital / Cardiology Scottish Ambulance Service / Patient Transport Service

(as a carer),

Tried to make an appointment with ambulance service from portmahomack but ambulance service could not do this appointment for 1530 as it would end up outside working hours of 1700. The latest appointment time was 1300 hours that they would do as they would be back by 1700.

It was an appointment for the cardiac clinic which is held in after noon start at 1400 hours. The round trip is approx 4hours to and from home.

How does a semi paralysed person arrange a cardiac visit.

There should be a joined up service between appointments and ambulance service,

Was left on my own to try and sort this out.

Come on hospital get this sorted out.

Dear scuppered

I am so sorry you are having this difficulty in getting an appointment. I can see exactly why you have this problem. Are you able to contact me directly Linda.kirkland@nhs.net with your details and I will see how this can be a bit more joined up?

best wishes

Linda

Dear Scuppered,

I am sorry to hear you had issue accessing the Patient Transport Service in supporting you to attend you hospital appointment. We make every effort to make sure all PTS journeys are tailored to patient's individual need, but do also have to take consideration of appointment time and distance involved. We work closely with Hospitals and more departments are very accommodating and understanding of PTS patients who live some distance from hospital sites and can often be flexible with appointment times to assist. Could I ask you to contact Steven Gorman, Area Service Manager for The Highlands, on stevengorman@nhs.net with your contact details and he will be in touch to discuss further'.

Best wishes,

Chris

Update posted by Scuppered (a carer)

I phoned a duty manager and explained my situation. We now have a Saturday appointment at 1130 in Jan next year.

Will check ambulance service if they work Saturdays?
