"Triage time was too long after we arrived by car"

About: Forth Valley Royal Hospital / Accident & emergency

(as a parent/guardian),

My youngest had an accident. Was knocked unconscious and had obvious facial fractures. I took her to A&E by car. I should have called 999 but it was quicker to take her myself. BIG mistake, it was 45 minutes before she was TRIAGED!

She was in shock, had lost conciousness when hit and was in pain. We had to ask the triage nurse for a blanket. 2 paracetamol was her pain relief! Back to waiting room for another hour and a half! Seen by ENP then who finally checked her thoroughly, ordered xrays and communicated really well with my daughter and parents. Thankfully no real lasting damage after 2 operations!

I am so sorry to hear this. we aim to Triage all patients within 15 minutes of arrival. At times this does prove difficult but we have systems in place to keep on top of this. On this occasion it appears we have not been able to do that.

The triage nurses can give simple analgesia which often helps but I can understand your concern.

I hope your daughter is recoveing. If you would like me to look into this further I would be happy to do that but would need to have your daughters details.
