"Brilliant staff and great facilities"

About: Northumbria Specialist Emergency Care Hospital

I was brought to A&E by ambulance and the student nurse was really lovely, as was the nurse who checked what they'd done.

I was then taken to Ambulatory Care unit and was settled in well. The doctor who cared for me was very friendly and made sure I understood and had a say in everything that was done. I also had to go for an ultrasound, and again I couldn't fault the staff on the ward.

The staff who took my blood pressure etc, and the man who brought me lunch, were also very friendly and chatty.

It turned out I have deep vein thrombosis, so we were waiting in the room for quite a while as they sorted out how I was going to be treated, which involved talks with the Freeman hospital, but I was kept well up to date whenever they got new information.

I was also very pleased with how not a single staff member seemed to disapprove of me having my newborn baby with me. Every person we spoke to complimented her, and at several points they offered to come back a bit later so I could finish breastfeeding my daughter. The doctor also reassured me, before I even had a chance to ask, that the medication I had to take was safe while breastfeeding.

In conclusion, despite waiting for some time the staff and facilities at the hospital on A&E, X-Ray and mainly Ambulatory Care were brilliant and I would recommend it to anyone.

Dear Madam,

Poor you !! I’m imagining it was a very frightening to be diagnosed with a DVT so soon after the birth of your baby. I am so glad that the team gave you all the care and support you needed during this time. Thank you for your kind recommendation.

The experience you describe makes me feel very proud of our teams who are always striving to provide the best care possible in a very safe, but warm and friendly way – thanks for giving us the chance to acknowledge all they do every day.

Many congratulations on the birth of your wee girl – I hope you are now back home with her and enjoying your time together.

With best wishes, Annie

Annie Laverty – Director of Patient Experience
