I would like to compliment the staff of the Radiotherapy Dept in the Cancer Centre at the QE Hospital.
I have recently completed a 6 week radiotherapy treatment course at the above department. I attended 33 sessions.
At all times the radiotherapists and ancillary staff were very supportive, professional, friendly and kind to me during this difficult time.
Treatment sessions were always prompt to the appointment time and never more than 15 mins late (often early or spot on!).
Staff were always concerned for my well-being and responsive to my requests for advice as to ways to deal with the side-effects of my treatment.
It should also be pointed out that during this period the department had been undergoing a major refurbishment by building contractors changing the lay-out of the dept. waiting room and offices.
Despite this, radiotherapy staff maintained a very high standard of care and service delivery.
( My compliments also to the building contractors for their good work)
The only concern I had was not caused by the staff but by the high number of male patients who I was aware of not washing their hands after using the toilets for personal enemas and use of the toilets ( an important part of the daily treatment routine for many male patients ).
Perhaps more effort could be made to emphasise to patients their responsibility to maintain good hygiene practices (clearly the few notices are not sufficient)
Please pass on my sincere thanks to the Radiotherapy Dept staff for doing their best to make my treatment as effective and bearable as possible.
