"Lack of compassion"

About: Durham, Darlington and Tees

(as the patient),

I recently attended my GP surgery and couldn't believe the locum doctors attitude. After telling them how I was feeling they gave me two options of how to proceed. I felt that neither of these options would be beneficial and I advised them of that. Their response was that they were the only options available and that I had to hurry up and make a decision as patients have a 10 minute slot and my 10 minutes were ending and that there were other patients waiting to see them.

I left their office feeling totally irrelevant, and that I was a nuisance.

Surely a doctor should put a patients health before time limits. I do have a mental health issue and due to the doctor's attitude I took an overdose that evening. As I left the surgery angry and upset the doctor did arrange for the police to phone me to check I was ok. I said I was fine, but this was after I had overdosed. I didn't see the point of telling the police as the doctor had made me feel irrelevant and worthless. I came from seeing the doctor in a worse state than before I saw them! Surely if a consultation needs more than 10 minutes the doctor should put the patients welfare before sticking to a timetable?
