"I just wanted my ear pain gone"

About: General practices in Lanarkshire

(as the patient),

I had been having serious ear ache and couldn't hear out my right ear and it was getting seriously painful and after trying almond oil for a few days it just wasn't helping.

I managed to get time of work for an emergency appointment at my doctors.

The doctor told me exactly what I thought. I needed my ear syringed, wrote me a note and said that I needed to go down to the Larkhall health clinic to book the appointment.

Unfortunately, when I got there I was told it would be a few days before I could get an appointment and the last appointments they do are 3: 30pm and they're only open Monday to Friday, I work 9 till 5, Monday to Friday and had already taken time off to get the appointment. So I'm popping painkillers to try and kill the pain and stop the vertigo, I called nhs lanarkshire to see if they could give me the details of other health clinics that could possibly help me. Cambuslang Gate Health Centre number was incorrect, the Cambuslang Clinic had no appointments until January, the Rutherglen Health Centre wouldn't help me because my doctor wasn't based there, the Douglas Street Community Health Clinic in Hamiton and the Cadzow Health Centre both told me no. So I'm left with limited hearing, pain through my ear and face and serious vertigo without any clinic giving me an appointment to suit around the time I took off from work and the time I usual work. I don't think I've ever been so disappointed with such a wide rage of nhs services.

Dear ZeldaBlue

I’m disappointed to read of your experiences trying to arrange an appointment to get your ear syringed; I would like to apologise for the inconvenience and frustration caused.

Our Treatment Rooms generally operate between 8.30am and 5 pm and timings for ear syringing can vary, I can only apologise if this doesn’t fit with your work schedule.

If you’d like to contact Laura Jack in the Patient Affairs Dept on Tel No: 01698 858292 with your contact details; she will be able to arrange for the appropriate person to contact you to find a suitable resolution.

Kind regards
