"5 stars plus!!!"

I had a bunion operation on Monday 30th November 2015 at Heatherwood. I cannot praise all the staff of Ward 4 (elective orthopaedics) enough!
Pre-op attention was like a well oiled machine - various professionals to welcome me and carry out their duties such as measuring for compression socks, physiotherapist with crutches and protective boot and the all important exercise regime, observations routine (blood pressure etc), the anaesthetist, registrar, surgeon and ward doctor, lunch menu was taken and so on. Everybody introduced themselves and explained the role they would play during my stay.
The reassurance given when being wheeled along the open corridor (welcoming fresh air) and into theatre was comforting by both nurse and the porter and then of course by the anaesthetist. Recovery can always be a bit disorientating, but again the reassurance of the staff was prominent.
The attention and professionalism post-op back on the ward couldn't be faulted. Healthcare staff were constantly monitoring my well being and obviously post surgery needs. Nothing was too much trouble for anyone including the kitchen staff who make a wonderful cup of tea and cleaning staff discreetly going about their all important duties. Volunteers from the hospital radio popped in and a hospital volunteer was a welcome addition, offering to go to the shop for a paper etc. Likewise with the discharge procedure - everything explained in detail with the relevant follow up information given.
I have not been an inpatient in an NHS hospital before (having had private healthcare) but this experience exceeded my expectations. The total professionalism, diligence and dedication, combined with the added bonus of a sense of fun and humour from the staff was unbeatable.
Thank you Heatherwood!
