Bedside manner came into question today as I visited Audiology with my elderly mother.
We attended on a cancellation apt at one days notice.
The Nurse who attended to my mothers hearing aid was abrupt and dispassionate, making my mother not wanting to return and wishing she had not attended in the first place. The action the Nurse advised was followed up at mums local surgery today and the surgery advice was in contradiction to what the Nurse had advised....not surprisingly.
The Nurse at the hospital having blamed my mothers build up of wax for presenting hearing aid problems, did eventually admit to the aid being partially broken...and duly repaired it, but not before making my mother feel scolded and quite honestly daft for not thinking to have her ears shringed before attending the appointment.
The local surgery nurse, who we visited to obtain a referral letter in order to have mothers ears shringed, said they could see her ear drum and that there was no huge build up, as advised in a derogatory manner at Stamford Hospital.
A shame really, as we started the day with a visit to Stamford Hosp canteen, very nice too!
