"Junior doctor lacking basic skills."

About: Northumbria Specialist Emergency Care Hospital

Attended A&E today with my husband, care by nurses second to none, kept informed at all times, seen by a doctor very brief history taken & waiting for blood results, same doctor informed my husband of his diagnosis, gave him antibiotics & told him he could go home., I asked for his venflon on to be removed & the doctor took a paper towel that is normally used to dry your hands, removed the venflon & told him to press on the site with the paper towel, we had to ask for some tape. This doctor did not wash his hands, wear gloves or use an appropriate dressing.

Dear Sir / Madam,

Firstly many thanks for sharing this review – it is so important for patients to involve themselves in their own safety by speaking up when things aren’t right. We are very grateful for those who take the time and trouble to do so - it helps us to provide the best care.

I have to admit I was a bit shocked to read about the doctor’s failure to adhere to basic hygiene standards – it is important we learn more about who the member of staff is so that we can understand, educate where necessary, and prevent this happening again. Would you please share your details with me privately so that we can respond to this in the way that we would like to ? My email is annie.laverty@nhct.nhs.uk

Many thanks, Annie
