"D44"

About: Sunderland Royal Hospital

After a kidney operation I was transferred to D44 27-29 November.

As with all wards in The Royal at the weekend, the staff were working flat out in difficult circumstances.

I could not complain about the level of care I received, the wonderful nurses and doctors were compassionate, caring and hard working.

I do have concerns that although the ward was spotless, toilet bins were never changed over the weekend and the system of leaving urine samples on the floor seemed to me a little off putting and unhygienic.

Nevertheless I would like to say a big thank you to the nurses and doctors who cared for me.

Thank you for taking the time to leave a review of our services on the NHS Choices website.

It was good to read that you had a positive experience of care on Ward D44 and we will share your comments with the team.

We will look into the issues you raise regarding the toilet bins not being emptied over the weekend and also the practice of leaving urine samples on the floor.

Thank you once again.
